Have you heard the story about the snake and the rope? Self help author Byron Katie tells a story about seeing a rope in the dessert and being terrified, thinking it was a snake.
When she realised it was just a rope, she knew there was nothing to be afraid of.
It was a rope all along.
It made me think about the anxious mind; we see snakes everywhere, when really there are only ever ropes.
The anxiety makes us think that there is danger and threat everywhere, but 99.9% of the time, it’s nothing dangerous at all.
It’s a rope, not a snake.
So next time your anxious mind tries to tell you something is dangerous or that you should be fearful, remember, it’s only a rope.
I’d love to hear about one specific example of something in your life that you realise is just a rope and not a snake – please let us know in the comments below.
